Jersey City has become a destination in its own right, without giving up architectural character. This brownstone is a case in point: full of the original detail and craftsmanship that drew our clients to it in the first place. We preserved that character throughout, layering in warmth, color, and texture, and letting old and new sit side by side rather than competing for attention.
Formal Living Room
Custom walnut built-ins, designed by our studio and built by Jamie Ladd of JTL Woodwork, frame the original fireplace. A modern Roll & Hill chandelier plays against the vintage ceiling medallion, with pure white walls and enveloping velvet sofas softening the room.
Informal Living Room
A cozy, kid-friendly counterpart to the formal room. We removed a dated, dark shelving unit and repeated the Roll & Hill chandelier for cohesion between the two spaces, with an infinity mirror adding a relaxed, optical effect. Custom media cabinet also built by Jamie Ladd of JTL Woodwork.
Kids' Bedroom
Cohesive with the home's architecture but full of whimsy — deep blue walls and playful wallpaper, with space-saving bunk beds that turn into a treehouse cabana for storytime.
Master Bedroom
Warm walls and sheer curtains keep the room cozy while maximizing light. A versatile bench and an oversized headboard make it a favorite spot for evening reading.
Bathrooms
Minimal accessories and bold wallpaper give even the smallest rooms some personality.
Kitchen
A bright, white backdrop anchors a grand gathering space built around a custom dining table. A large black sideboard and a black lighting accent play off one another, finished with vintage glass bottles found on-site during the yard renovation.
